May 30, 1615 Ming Dynasty beatings
410 years ago today, May 30, 1615 (May 4, 1615, the lunar calendar), Zhang Cha broke into the palace in the Ming Dynasty. In the Wanli Dynasty of the Ming Dynasty, the establishment of a crown prince caused a heated debate in the court. Zhu Changluo, the eldest son of Emperor Wanli, was born to Wang, the maid of the Empress Dowager, and was extremely cold received; while Zhu Changxun, the third son of the emperor, born to his favorite concubine Zheng, was loved by Emperor Wanli, and Zheng and Emperor Wanli "secretly swore" to make Chang Xun the crown prince. The courtiers fought according to the feudal dynasty's law of establishing a crown prince and establishing a chief without a crown prince. However, Emperor Wanli always used various excuses to delay until the Empress Dowager exerted pressure and established Zhu Changluo as Crown Prince in the 29th year of Wanli (1601). At the same time, Chang Xun was also granted the title of King Fu, a vassal state of Luoyang. This was the "struggle for the foundation of the country" that the Wanli Dynasty debated for 15 years over the establishment of a crown prince. From the twenty-ninth year of Wanli (1601) to the forty-second year (1614), there was another 13 years of struggle, and it was not until King Fu left Beijing and went to Luoyang to settle the country that Zhu Changluo's status as a prince was truly established. However, the power struggle in the palace has not stopped. On May 30, 1615 (the fourth day of May, the 43rd year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty), Zhang Cha, a man outside the palace, broke into the Donghua Gate of Dannei with a wooden stick and hit the Ciqing Palace where the Crown Prince lived. He was later captured by the internal prison supervisor. There was mixed debate within the court over Zhang Chatuan's attack on the Prince's Palace. The officials who supported Concubine Zheng's tendency to favor King Fu as the crown prince believed that it was Zhang Cha's madness; the ministers who supported the crown prince believed that it was a plot to frame the crown prince. After a joint review by the 13th Division of the Ministry of Punishment, it was found that Zhang Cha was a member of the Hongfeng Sect of the White Lotus Sect in the Gyeonggi area. Its leaders were Ma Sandao and Li Shoucai. They colluded with eunuchs Pang Bao and Liu Cheng in the palace of Concubine Zheng and sent Zhang Cha to break into the palace and attack the Prince's Palace. The occurrence of this case shocked the palace and the government and the public. In the forty-first year of Wanli (1613), there was an incident in which Consort Zheng's chamberlain colluded with a traitor to curse the Crown Prince. It was inevitable that Consort Zheng would be implicated in the assault case. Emperor Wanli tried his best to mediate the conflict between the Crown Prince and Concubine Zheng. On the one hand, he angrily scolded Concubine Zheng, and on the other hand, he forced the Crown Prince to change his attitude, changing from "Zhang Cha's actions must be the mastermind" to "This matter can only end up with Zhang Cha." In addition, Emperor Wanli summoned his ministers to express his memory of the Crown Prince's protector, the Empress Dowager, to show his sincerity in establishing the Crown Prince. He ordered that in addition to punishing Zhang Cha and others,"no innocent people are allowed to be involved" in order to free Imperial Consort Zheng. The case ended. On June 24, Zhang Cha was dismembered and killed, Ma Sandao and Li Shoucai were sent to guard the city from afar, and eunuchs Pang Bao and Liu Cheng were killed in the inner court. The uproar caused by the attack was temporarily subsided. However, the palace battle did not really end. It unfolded more violently during the Taichang and Tianqi Dynasties, and the "Hongwan Case" and "Shifting Case" occurred one after another. The assault case is obviously related to the power struggle, but the inside story has not yet been decided and has become one of the suspected cases in the Ming Palace. Comment: Due to the incident at the east window, Consort Zheng instigated the attack incident, which greatly declined her power, but consolidated the status of Prince Zhu Changluo.
