Alexander Matviyevich Mattrosov (1924, Dnepropetrovsk-February 23, 1943.23), private of the Guards near the village of Chernushki in Pskov Oblast, hero of the Soviet Union (June 19, posthumously awarded). Joined the Communist Youth League in 1942. Joined the Soviet Army in 1942. Matrosov lost his parents when he was a child and was educated at the Ivanov Nursing Home of Ulyanovsk Region and the Ufa Children's Labor Home, where he later served as an assistant nurse. Since October 1942, he has been a student at the Hongholm Infantry School. In November 1942, he entered the front line and participated in the battle against the Germans in the 56th Guards Division (Kalinin Front). During the battle to seize the village of Chernushki on February 23, 1943, the fierce machine-gun fire from the German civil launch point forced the detachment soldiers to the ground, and they urgently needed to eliminate the support points at all costs. So Matrosov climbed forward, approached the civil launch site, and threw two grenades. The enemy machine gun stopped firing, but in a flash it sounded again. The impact of the team may be frustrated. Matrosov pounced on the civil launch site, blocked the perforation with his body, and died heroically. In recognition of this heroic act, Matrosov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
