On this day, 88 years ago, on January 8, 1937 (November 26, 1936, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives refused to export weapons to both sides of the Spanish Civil War. On July 18, 1936, with the support of German and Italian fascists, Franco launched an armed rebellion. On October 1, the Spanish Civil War began. Britain, France and other countries have imposed a blockade on the Spanish government in the name of the "non-interference policy." The U.S. government declared itself neutral and also banned the export of weapons to Spain. On the surface, Britain, France, and the United States did not support any party in the Spanish Civil War. They prohibited the delivery of weapons and military supplies to Spain, and prohibited the transit of weapons purchased by both sides of the Spanish Civil War. In fact, they imposed a blockade on the Spanish Republic, and allowed Germany and Italy to provide Franco rebels to provide various weapons and let them go. Germany and Italy can, as "neutral countries", purchase weapons from the United States to arm the Spanish rebels. Therefore, the measures taken by Britain, France, the United States and other countries condoned fascist aggression.
