Guangming Daily was founded on June 16, 1949
On this day, 76 years ago, on June 16, 1949 (May 20, 1949 in the lunar calendar), Guangming Daily was founded. On June 16, 1949, Guangming Daily, the official newspaper of China Democratic League, was founded in Beijing. Mao Zedong wrote: "Unite, the light is in sight." Zhang Bojun was appointed president and Hu Yuzhi was appointed editor-in-chief. The background of the founding was that my country went through 30 years of liberation movement, especially the three-year War of Liberation, which overthrew the rule of the Kuomintang, defeated the imperialist aggressive forces, and achieved the victory of the China people's democratic revolution that shocked the world. On the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Guangming Daily was born. Guangming Daily was originally hosted by the China Democratic League. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and other central leading comrades all wrote inscriptions for the founding of Guangming Daily. Since July 1949, Guangming Daily has successively established various special periodicals such as "Economics","Literature","Literary Review","Academic", and "New Language", and has begun to form its own distinctive characteristics. Since 1953, it has been run by various democratic parties in China and the National Federation of Industry and Commerce. In 1957, it was changed to the leadership of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee. Since 1978, Guangming Daily has adjusted its newspaper running policy several times, but its readership, mainly intellectuals, has not changed. In November 1982, Guangming Daily was clearly led and hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In August 1994, the compilation plan of Guangming Daily approved by the Party Central Committee clearly stipulated that Guangming Daily is a public institution directly under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and a news organization managed by the Central Propaganda Department. The serial number of this newspaper has continued from the title of "No." to this day, which is different from the title of "Issue" of some other newspapers. The retail price of this newspaper at that time was 20 yuan in the old currency, but later increased to 200 yuan per share. In the publication "Unite to Build a New Democratic China", the newspaper's policy is stated as follows: "The first is a responsible attitude","the second is the spirit of service","the third is criticism of construction", and "the fourth is loyal reporting." The newspaper focuses on science, education, theory, etc., and reflects the development of science, education, culture, academia, etc. at home and abroad.
