On this day, 28 years ago, on December 6, 1997 (November 7, 1997 in the lunar calendar), a Russian Air Force transport plane crashed into a house. The crash site On December 6, 1997, an An-124 large transport aircraft of the Russian Air Force crashed into a residential building shortly after taking off from the Russian Far East city of Irkutsk Airport, causing a fire and destroying the building. Some nearby residential buildings, shops, schools and kindergartens were also severely damaged. In this major air crash, 59 people were killed and 28 people were missing. Immediately after the accident, Russian President Yeltsin sent a telegram to the governor of Irkutsk Oblast, expressing condolences to the victims and instructing the government. The Air Force and state leaders found out the cause of the accident and dealt with the aftermath.
