108 years ago today, January 9, 1917 (December 16, 1916, the lunar calendar), various Russian cities held strikes against the war. The death of soldiers in the front and the contraction of the economy in the rear sent Russians into the streets angrily January 9, 1917. A strike movement launched by military factories in Petrograd and neighboring cities was brutally suppressed by the tsarist army to oppose Russia's involvement in the war. The number of Russian casualties in the front is increasing at an alarming rate, and the people in the rear are starving. Officials seem indifferent to calls for improved transportation and food distribution.
