Fifty years ago today, on April 26, 1975 (March 15, 1975 in the lunar calendar), the final offensive was launched in the Battle of Ho Chi Minh. In Saigon, U.S. officials and desperate South Vietnamese followers fled in panic. In January 1973, after the signing of the Paris Agreement on Vietnam, the Nguyen Van Thieu regime in South Vietnam continued to undermine the agreement. The military and civilians in the south began to gradually counterattack in 1974 and expand the Jiefang District. In March 1975, the spring general offensive was launched, winning the Battle of Saiwon and the Battle of Hue-Da Nang, eliminating and disintegrating all military forces and ruling institutions of the puppet First Military Region and Second Military Region. Since April 9, 1975, the southern military and civilians have successively liberated Longqing, Ningshun, Binh Binh and Binh Sui-provinces. On April 26, the southern military and civilians launched the final offensive in the Battle of Ho Chi Minh. They launched the final offensive on the enemy's Saigon Line in five routes, forcing the South Vietnamese authorities to announce unconditional surrender on April 30, and Saigon-Jiading City (namely Ho Chi Minh City) was completely liberated. Soon, the military and civilians in southern Vietnam continued to attack, forcing all enemies in the puppet fourth military region to surrender. The southern provinces were completely liberated. This battle was a historic battle for the people of Vietnam to liberate southern Vietnam and complete national reunification.
