On this day, 77 years ago, July 27, 1948 (June 21, 1948 in the lunar calendar), the Communist Party of China exposed the Kuomintang's false peace plot. On July 27, 1948, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued an instruction to "Break the Enemy's Conspiracy of Fake Peace Movement" drafted by Zhou Enlai and revised by Mao Zedong. The instructions pointed out that in the face of the increasing victory of our People's Liberation War, during the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang, many factions and individuals, instigated and encouraged by the U.S. imperialist authorities, have carried out a false peace movement in an attempt to take advantage of the illusions about peace that still exist among some people in the Kuomintang area, prepare to launch a coup d'état when Chiang Kai-shek's army is more defeated and the Kuomintang's situation becomes more critical, ostensibly sacrificing Chiang Kai-shek and declaring an armistice and negotiating peace. In fact, it was to give the entire Kuomintang reactionary ruling class breathing time in order to recuperate its troops, make a comeback, and eliminate the people's power. During this activity, many local warlord politicians, led by Li Zongren, attempted to replace Chiang Kai-shek. Some centrist right-wing elements also attempted to overthrow Chiang and gain power.
