On this day, 27 years ago, on September 19, 1998 (July 29, 1998, the lunar calendar), my country won two more United Nations Habitat Awards. On September 19, 1998, the UN Habitat announced that the Funan River Comprehensive Renovation Project in Chengdu City and Mu Suixin, Mayor of Shenyang City, won the 1998 UN Habitat Award. The other five medals of the 1998 Habitat Award were won by Brazil, the European Urban Security Forum, Nigeria, Russia and Tunisia. In addition, Zhuhai City also won the United Nations Best Practice Award for Improving the Living Environment. The United Nations Habitat Award is the highest-level award in the global field of human settlements. It is awarded annually by the United Nations Habitat to organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the development of human settlements. my country has been applying for it since 1990 and has won this award seven times so far. The "Best Practice Award" was established in 1996 and is selected every two years. My country's post-disaster reconstruction project in Anhui Province has won this award. Chengdu's Funan River Comprehensive Improvement Project is a large-scale project to improve the urban environment. The Chengdu City government has invested 2.7 billion yuan since 1992, spent five years comprehensively managing it, and achieved remarkable results. As one of the pilot cities for the Sustainable Development City Project jointly initiated by the United Nations Human Settlements Center and the United Nations Environment Program, Shenyang City, under the organization and leadership of the Municipal Party Committee, Municipal Government and Mayor Mu Suixin, has made remarkable achievements in overall urban planning and management, urban infrastructure construction, residential housing and improvement of the living environment.
