On this day, 78 years ago, June 3, 1947 (April 15, 1947 in the lunar calendar), the Mountbatten Plan was announced. On June 3, 1947, the "Indian Independence Plan" formulated by the British government was announced by General Mountbatten, Governor General of India. This plan was also known as the "Mountbatten Plan." After World War II, the anti-British movement in British colony India developed rapidly. The British government was forced to change its policy towards India, preparing to transfer power and withdraw from India. In March 1947, Mountbatten served as Governor General of India and held talks with leaders of various Indian political parties, princes of local states, etc. The Congress Party calls for a united India under its leadership, and the Muslim League calls for an independent Islamic Pakistan. In July 1947, the British Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act. On August 14 and 15 of the same year, Pakistan and India successively declared independence and became two self-governing territories within the British Commonwealth. Britain's 190-year direct colonial rule in India came to an end. After the independence of Britain and Pakistan, India formed a federal government with Nehru as prime minister, and Pakistan formed a government headed by Rijagt Ali Khan. The two countries established a Constitutional Convention under the Independence Act, each with a governor appointed by the British King. From 1947 to 1948, Mountbatten remained governor of India, and Jinnah served as governor of Pakistan. In 1950 and 1956, Britain and Pakistan successively announced the establishment of independent republics. The partition of India and Pakistan has brought about a series of negative consequences, resulting in sectarian massacres and division of the unified economy between the two countries.
