Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The Battle of Bloheath broke out
September 23, 1459 The Battle of Bloheath broke out, and the army of the York family in England defeated the army of the Lancaster family who came to stop him. The conflict began on September 23, 1459, as York returned from Ireland. At the Battle of Blore Heath in Staffordshire, a large Lancaster army failed to prevent a York family army led by Lord Salisbury Richard Neville from setting off from Middleham Castel in Yorkshire and joining forces with York at Ludlow Castle. After the Lancaster family's victory at the Battle of Ludford Bridge, Edward, Earl of March (York's eldest son, later Edward IV), Salzburg, and Warwick fled to Calais. Full control was restored by the Lancaster family, and Somerset was appointed governor of Calais. His attempt to banish Warwick was easily foiled, and the House of York even began launching several raids on the English coast from Calais in 1459 - 60, exacerbating the atmosphere of chaos and unrest. By 1460, Warwick and others were ready to launch an invasion of England and soon established strongholds in Kent and London, where they had widespread support. With the support of a papal representative, they marched north. Henry led his army south to meet it, while Margaret and Prince Edward stayed north. The Battle of Northampton on July 10, 1460 was disastrous for the Lancaster family. The York army led by Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, with the help of rebels from the Lancaster family, captured King Henry and took him as a prisoner to London.
