On this day, 36 years ago, on December 6, 1989 (November 9, 1989, the first batch of genetically modified rabbits in my country were introduced. In early December 1989, my country's animal genetic engineering research made significant progress: scientists used genetic engineering technology to inject genes containing hepatitis B virus and human growth hormone genes into fertilized rabbit eggs, and obtained the first batch of genetically modified rabbits containing these foreign genes. The success of this research breaks down the barrier that most animals cannot undergo sexual hybridization. It is of great significance to use the excellent genes contained in other species to improve specific species and cultivate ideal species. When researchers conduct research on genetically modified rabbits, they first inject the hepatitis B virus surface antigen gene into the male pronucleus of a rabbit's fertilized egg through microscope, and then transfer it into the fallopian tube of the recipient female rabbit and enter the uterus for development until the transgenic rabbit is born. After molecular hybridization and rabbit plague enzyme labeling methods, the hepatitis B surface antigen gene and its products can be found in the blood of transgenic rabbits and their descendants. This indicates that this foreign gene has existed, expressed and inherited in the genome of the transgenic rabbit.
