124 years ago today, August 4, 1901 (June 20, 1901 in the lunar calendar), American jazz musician Louis Armstrong was born. Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901-July 6, 1971) was an American jazz musician. Armstrong was one of the most famous jazz musicians of the 20th century and was known as the "father of jazz." With his extraordinary personal charisma and constant innovation, he brought jazz music from the New Orleans area to the world, turning it into a popular music form. Armstrong became famous for playing the trumpet in his early years, and later became a leader among jazz singers with his unique hoarse voice. Louis was born in the slums of New Orleans, and his father left his family since he was a child. He had been sent to a juvenile correctional school for a crime, where he learned to play the trumpet. At the age of 18, he became a cornet player in the KidOry band. In 1922, he joined the King Oliver Band, where he studied under Oliver. In 1927, the band Louis Armstrong And His Stompers named after him was born, when he became famous for his slightly hoarse singing voice. Louis has the nickname "Satchmo", which is an abbreviation for the combination of the two English words Satchel(schoolbag) and Mouth(mouth). Because he had a big mouth since he was a child, his companions used nicknames such as Gatemouth, Dippermouth, and Satchelmouth to make fun of him. Later, he was interviewed by a music magazine in the UK. When he met, the reporter greeted him with "Hello, Satchmo!" But he thought it was cool after hearing it, so he used this title as his nickname. Later, he wrote his second autobiography in the name of this nickname. Armstrong and his five-piece band comment: When you don't know what you're playing, it's jazz. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1krv.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.15-13:34] 访问:75
