July 25, 1995 Paris Metro bombing
Thirty years ago today, July 25, 1995 (June 28, 1995 in the lunar calendar), the Paris subway explosion occurred. Ambulance personnel rescued the injured at around 5:30 pm on July 25, 1995, during rush hour. The St. Michel Metro Station, located near Notre Dame in central Paris, was bustling. A train full of passengers pulled into the platform. Just as passengers were getting on and off the train, the sixth carriage suddenly exploded and caught fire, killing 4 people on the spot. 62 people were injured, 14 of whom were seriously injured. Ten minutes later, more than 300 police and ambulance personnel arrived one after another to carry out first aid and investigation on the spot. First aid stations were set up on the platform and in cafes near the station. The square in front of Notre Dame de Paris became a tarmac, and two helicopters took off and landed alternately to transport seriously injured people. All hospitals near Saint-Michel were mobilized, and some medical staff who had returned home from work rushed back to the hospital to participate in the rescue immediately after hearing the news. Railways and other relevant departments have jointly set up emergency contact centers and dedicated telephone lines to receive families of victims and provide transportation information. After preliminary investigation, the police confirmed that this was a planned and purposeful terrorist explosion. The murderer placed a ticking time bomb containing about 3 kilograms of explosives under the seat and quickly left the scene after committing the crime, presumably at the previous stop. Get off the car. After the incident, President Chirac, Prime Minister Juppe and Paris Mayor Tibery rushed to the accident site to visit the victims. Interior Minister Debre, who had just arrived in Bordeaux for an inspection, also immediately returned to Paris to deploy the case. At 10 p.m., the Ministry of Justice, the Police Department and the anti-terrorist agency jointly held an emergency meeting to formulate public security measures to prevent new terrorist incidents. Starting that night, police strengthened controls at borders, customs, airports and major transportation routes across the country to check the luggage and ID cards of passing passengers. Today, all major business centers and major subway stations in Paris have added security. The four victims of this incident are still difficult to verify their identities, and the French police have not obtained any clues about the murderer and his attempts. But most authorities here believe that it was committed by foreign terrorists. People associate the incident with France's recent tough stance on issues such as resuming nuclear testing and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also associate it with France's tense diplomatic relations with Algeria. Around 1986, Paris was the target of international terrorists. Now the recurrence of similar incidents has worried all over France. Some public opinion has raised questions about a series of security issues faced after the opening of European borders.
