An editorial published by the People's Daily on January 28, 1987, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Notice on Several Issues Concerning the Current Opposition of Bourgeois Liberalization." The "Notice" pointed out that the struggle against bourgeois liberalization is long-term and exists throughout the entire process of opening up and reform. This struggle is strictly confined to the party and is mainly carried out in the field of political thought, focusing on solving the issue of fundamental political principles and political direction, that is, mainly opposing erroneous trends that attempt to get rid of the leadership of the Communist Party and deny the socialist road. Opposing bourgeois liberalization has specific meanings in conjunction with economic reform policies, rural policies, scientific and technological research, exploration of literary and artistic styles and skills, and people's daily lives. Other negative and corrupt phenomena existing within the party and in society should be solved whatever problems they are and should not be linked to bourgeois liberalization. Party, government and military agencies, urban enterprises and institutions, and the People's Liberation Army mainly provide positive education to the majority of party members. Not in rural areas.
