June 27, 1950: The U.S. Seventh Fleet entered the Taiwan Strait

On June 27, 1950 (the 13th of the fifth lunar month), the U.S. Seventh Fleet entered the Taiwan Strait.

On June 27, 1950, U.S. President Truman ordered the Seventh Fleet to enter the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan is located in the Western Pacific and is a transportation hub connecting countries in the Pacific region. Its strategic location is extremely important. The United States regards it as "an unsinkable aircraft carrier."

After the victory of China's revolution, the United States even wanted to use Taiwan as a front line for Western imperialism and anti-communism. In June 1950, the Korean War broke out, and the United States took the opportunity to send troops to Taiwan. On June 27, U.S. President Truman claimed that "the occupation of Taiwan by Communist troops will directly threaten the security of the Pacific region." He ordered the Seventh Fleet to enter the Taiwan Strait and blatantly interfere in China's internal affairs by force in the name of "helping to defend" Taiwan. Two days later, six destroyers and two cruisers of the Seventh Fleet sailed into the Taiwan Strait and immediately began to cruise.

The entry of the Seventh Fleet into the Taiwan Strait temporarily saved the demise of Chiang Kai-shek's regime and enabled Chiang Kai-shek to continue to maintain autocratic rule in Taiwan; at the same time, it also created a long-term separation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and hindered the process of reunification of China.
