American composer Stephen Collins Foster died of illness

On January 13, 1864, American composer Stephen Collins Foster died of illness

Stephen Collins Foster (1826-1864) was an American composer. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, northern United States. My father is a social activist who likes music and plays violin in his spare time. He is the fifth son, and everyone affectionately calls him "Little Stephen." He loves music. When he was 6 years old, he stuck a feather in his hat, played a drum, blew the whistle of "Bright Light"("Auld Lang Syne Auld Lang"), imitating members of the military band walking on the road. When he was 7 years old, his mother took him to the musical instrument store. He picked up a silver flute and fiddled with it for a while. Then he played "Song of Colombia" and played it very well, which surprised everyone present. He had never learned music from anyone, except that he had sung or recited many poems. I don't know where he borrowed a music book and read it attentively every day. At the age of 14, he entered middle school. He became more and more fond of music and often sang with his good friends. He also wrote a waltz for four flutes, and everyone played it together. In 1841, he entered college and began composing music. In 1842, when he was 16 years old, he published the song "Love, Please Open the Grid Window." Later, he worked in a cotton warehouse in Pittsburgh and came into contact with songs sung by black people, which had an important influence on his later writing. In his life, he wrote nearly 200 beautiful and moving songs, of which more than 160 have been published, and almost all of them are composed by himself. Such as: "Oh Susanna","Uncle Ned","Old Folks at Home","My KFC Hometown","Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair","Beautiful Dream Man","Old Black Joe", etc. He died of illness in New York on January 13, 1864 at the age of 37.
