British diplomat Amistice was born

William Peter Amsted

William Peter Amsted, the first Earl of Amerite, GCH, PC (January 14, 1773-March 13, 1857), commonly known as Lord Amerite, was a British diplomat who led a delegation to visit China on behalf of Britain in 1816. However, due to differences in etiquette between the Qing court and the British, the delegation was unable to meet Emperor Jiaqing. After the end of the mission to China, Amish served as Governor General of India from 1823 to 1828. Amestede was born on January 14, 1773 in Bath, Somerset, England. His father was Lieutenant General William Amestede. In 1816, Lord Amestede was appointed by the British government as an envoy to visit China in an attempt to discuss Sino-British trade matters with the Qing court in an attempt to further open up the door to China. On December 30, 1815, Lord Americano was appointed Advisor to the Privy Council. On January 20, 1816, the British government announced its appointment of him as Minister Plenipotentiary in China. In 1823, he was appointed Governor General of India, replacing the Marquis of Hastings, who resigned due to a financial scandal. In February 1828, the Earl of Amerstead officially resigned as governor of India due to medical reasons and returned to England to recuperate. In his later years, the Earl of Amestad retired to his manor house, Nooll House, in Kent, and died on March 13, 1857 at the age of 84. After his death, his body was buried in Severox Church, Severox, Kent, and the title of Earl was inherited by his second son.
