July 22, 1952 The July Revolution broke out in Egypt
On this day, 73 years ago, July 22, 1952 (June 1, 1952 in the lunar calendar), the July Revolution broke out in Egypt. Farouk held the little prince and was with his wife. On July 22, 1952, the Egyptian "Free Officers Organization" led by Mohammed Najib Bey and Gamal Abdul Nasser launched the "July Revolution". The Free Officers Organization was a secret organization composed of young patriotic officers in the late period of World War II. It represented the interests and demands of the Egyptian national bourgeoisie. In the first half of 1952, the people's movement against British imperialism and the corrupt rule of the Farouk Dynasty in Egypt surged. The patriotic actions of the people affect the organization of free officers. After careful planning, the Free Officers Organization launched an armed uprising on the evening of July 22. Thanks to the support of the people, the uprising won. The army led by the Free Officers Organization arrested reactionary senior officers and surrounded the palace. On July 26, King Farouk was forced by the situation and signed an abdication statement and left Egypt and went into exile. Farouk's minor son succeeded to the throne, known as Fouad II, but the regime effectively passed to the Free Officers 'Organization. Mohammed Najib Bayi, Chairman of the Free Officers Organization, and Gamal Abdul Nasser, Vice Chairman, presided over the establishment of the Revolutionary Committee to act on behalf of the Parliament; on September 7, Najib became Prime Minister of Egypt, Minister of War and Minister of Navigation. On the 9th, the new government promulgated the "Land Reform Law", stipulating that the land owner's land shall not exceed 200 feddans, and the excess shall be purchased by the government. On December 10, the 1923 Constitution, which represented the interests of the landlord bourgeoisie and safeguarded the privileges of the royal family, was announced to be abolished, and the Farouk Dynasty was overthrown. This was the "July Revolution" in Egyptian history. The "Free Officers Organization" was later formed into the "Arab Socialist League", and all other political parties were dissolved.
