The ambush battle in the Huangpi Mountains was the largest battle in the fourth counter-"encirclement and suppression" campaign. In 1933, the Kuomintang reactionaries launched the fourth large-scale "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the Central Soviet Area and the First Red Army. Among them, the Middle Route Army, composed of 12 divisions under Chiang Kai-shek's direct line, was the "advance suppression" army, and both the left and right roads were the "clearance suppression" troops to coordinate the actions of the Middle Route Army. The total strength of the enemy's Middle Route Army is about 70 regiments, divided into three columns: the 11th, 52nd and 59th divisions of the first column, which are concentrated in the Yihuang and Tangyin areas; The 10th, 14th, 27th and 90th divisions of the second column are concentrated in Fuzhou and Longgudu areas; the 5th, 6th, 9th and 79th divisions of the third column are concentrated in Jinxi and Huwan areas; the 43rd Division is the reserve team. On February 9, the Red First Army marched towards the Nanfeng area and launched an attack on the enemy's outer positions northwest of Nanfeng City, but failed to break through the enemy's main position. Under the command of Commander Zhu De and Political Commissar Zhou Enlai, the Red First Army decided to use one unit to feint and attack Nanfeng based on changes in the enemy's situation. The main force was concentrated in the area west of Nanfeng and Litawei line to wait to attack and assist the enemy. On February 22, our army learned that the first column of the enemy's Middle Route Army was preparing to detour from the Yihuang and Le 'an areas to the rear of our army, while the main force of the second column was concentrated in Nancheng, preparing to engage in a decisive battle with our army in the Nanfeng area. In view of the dense enemy's troops, Zhou Enlai and Zhu De resolutely decided to withdraw from Nanfeng and took retreat steps. The 11th Army disguised as the main force, crossed the Fuhe River eastward between Litawei and Xinfeng Street, and advanced towards Lichuan to confuse the enemy. The main force then secretly moved to the Dongshao and Luokou areas in the front of the Central Soviet Area to wait for the opportunity to annihilate the enemy. On February 27, when the 52nd and 59th Divisions of the enemy's First Column arrived at the Huangpi area in the south of Yihuang, the 1st Division of our First Corps immediately attacked Jiaohu with one force, cutting the enemy's marching column in the middle. At the same time, the 7th and 9th Divisions stormed the enemy's 52nd Division, and the 10th and 11th Divisions and the 21st Army cut off the enemy's retreat. Our right-wing vanguard troops arrived at the front lines of Huangpi and Xiuyuan and found that the enemy's 59th Division was advancing towards Huangpi from the Huoyuan area, and the 64th Division of the 22nd Right-wing Army was rapidly advancing towards Huoyuan. So they requested to annihilate the enemy's 59th Division in Huangpi and Huoyuan areas. After several hours of fierce fighting, they defeated the enemy. After the two-day battle, the enemy's 52nd Division was completely wiped out, and all but one regiment of the 59th Division escaped were wiped out.
