On this day, 84 years ago, on September 25, 1941 (August 5, 1941, the lunar calendar), five heroes of Langya Mountain jumped off a cliff. On its main peak, Qipituo, there is a "Five Heroes Monument", with Nie Rongzhen's personal inscription engraved on the monument. During the Anti-Japanese War, five soldiers of the Eighth Route Army bravely jumped off a cliff here. The five soldiers are: Ma Baoyu, Ge Zhenlin, Hu Delin, Hu Fucai, and Song Xueyi. The surging Yishui River praises the heroic names of soldiers, and the majestic Langya Mountain is engraved with heroic achievements. In September 1941 (the 78th anniversary), the Japanese invading army launched an "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the revolutionary base areas in western Hebei Province. On the 25th, more than 3500 Japanese and puppet troops stationed in Guantou, Longmenzhuang and Jie 'an, with the cooperation of aircraft and artillery, besieged the First Red Regiment of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Military Region, which was fighting in the Langya Mountain area. Based on an analysis of the situation between the enemy and the enemy at that time, the troops decided to break out of the encirclement and move to the outer line to eliminate the enemy. The Seventh Company served as a blocking task, covering the relocation of the main force, local agencies and local people. Ma Baoyu, squad leader of the sixth squad, Ge Zhenlin, deputy squad leader, and five soldiers Hu Delin, Hu Fucai and Song Xueyi were ordered to stay at the end to hold the position and delay the enemy. In order to buy more time for the troops and the masses to move, the Sixth Squad contained 500 to 600 enemies while fighting and retreating, and followed a winding path to lead the enemy to Qipituo, the main peak of Langya Mountain, which is surrounded by cliffs on three sides. Ma Baoyu led everyone to fight the enemy intelligently and bravely for a day based on the dangerous terrain of the Qipituo area. He repelled the enemy's charges again and again, leaving enemy bodies on the hillside. When they repelled the enemy's fourth charge, they had successfully completed the containment and cover tasks in accordance with the time specified by their superiors. Ma Baoyu led everyone to prepare for evacuation. They had just taken a few steps and suddenly stopped again. They saw that there were two roads in front of them. One was the road for the transfer of the large troops. Taking this road could quickly catch up with the large troops, but it would also lead the enemy to the large troops; the other was the road leading to the peak of the Qipantuo Mountains. The road above was surrounded by cliffs, and there was no more road to pass through. The enemy's fifth charge began again, and the five heroes resolutely climbed towards the peak of Qipituo. The enemy chased after him crazily. The five soldiers ran out of bullets and threw stones at the enemy. In the end, when they ran out of ammunition and food, they would rather die than surrender, smashed the weapons in their hands, and jumped off a cliff hundreds of meters high. Ma Baoyu, Hu Delin and Hu Fucai fell to the bottom of the cliff and died heroically. Ge Zhenlin and Song Xueyi jumped off a cliff and were caught by branches halfway up the mountain. They survived and returned to the team with injuries. In order to commend Ma Baoyu and other five strong men for their heroic spirit of covering the safe transfer of the large force and daring to devote themselves to the overall situation, the Eighth Route Army Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Military Region Command announced them as honorary soldiers of the Eighth Route Army and issued a commendation order calling on the soldiers and civilians in the Border Region to learn from the "Five Heroes of Langya Mountain". Later, the local people built the "Five Heroes Monument" on Langya Mountain.
