When he was young, he studied at the Law Department of the University of the Philippines and obtained a bachelor of law degree. His father was a politician. In 1933, he was tried for the assassination of his father's political opponents and was found guilty in 1939. He appealed to the Supreme Court of the Philippines and was acquitted a year later. He was captured by the Japanese army during World War II and survived the "death march" from Bataan to Central Luzon. After escaping, he became the leader of the Philippines 'anti-Japanese war.

In the spring of 1945, he was appointed by General MacArthur as the administrator of the eight provinces of Northern Luzon. He was awarded the rank of colonel and was known as the "Anti-Japanese Hero". From 1946 to 1947, he served as technical assistant to Rojas, the first president after the independence of the Republic. He served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1959, a senator from 1959 to 1965, and President of the Senate from 1963 to 1965. He was originally a major member of the Liberal Party founded by Rojas. In 1965, he left the party because he was not nominated by the party as a presidential candidate. Later, as a Kuomintang candidate, he ran for president with Liberal Party Chairman Macapagal. After winning, he became president on December 30, 1965. Re-elected in 1969.

During his first term, agriculture, industry, and education were all developed, but the national crime rate rose, student demonstrations and rural guerrilla activities continued, and he supported the United States in participating in the Vietnam War in international affairs. The Military Regulation Law was promulgated on September 21, 1972, integrating various extraordinary powers. On January 17, 1981, the end of military rule was announced, but it still ruled with an iron fist. In April of the same year, a referendum approved various constitutional reforms, established a new government system, and continued to implement the presidential system. He defeated the only symbolic candidate on June 16 and took office on June 30, beginning a new six-year term.

On February 7, 1986, after repeated calls from the opposition party and pressure from the United States, an early general election was announced, and the National Assembly announced that he was re-elected. However, due to strong opposition from the Philippine people and the defection of Defense Minister Enrilay and his troops, Marcos fled to Hawaii with his family on February 25, 1986, after ruling the Philippines for 22 years. After his death, with the approval of the Aquino government, his coffin was returned to his hometown of Irogo Norte Province in 1993 for burial. He is the author of "Democratic Revolution in the Philippines" and "Notes on the New Society of the Philippines".
