On this day, 98 years ago, on May 1, 1927 (April 1, 1927 in the lunar calendar), farmers in Haifeng and Lufeng, Guangdong Province revolted. On May 1, 1927, the Peasant Self-Defense Forces in Haifeng, Lufeng and other places in Guangdong, under the leadership of Communist Peng Pai, held three armed uprisings on May 1, September 7 and October 30, 1927. The third uprising occupied Haifeng, Lufeng and nearby areas, carried out an agrarian revolution, and established a workers 'and peasants' democratic regime. At the end of 1928, due to the large-scale offensive by the Kuomintang reactionaries, this armed force retreated to the nearby mountainous areas and persisted in guerrilla warfare.
