Twenty-eight years ago today, September 5, 1997 (August 4, 1997 in the lunar calendar), Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa passed away. On September 5, 1997, Mother Theresa, a world-renowned philanthropist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, died of a heart attack in Calcutta, India. She was 87 years old. The Indian government held a grand state funeral for Mother Teresa on September 13. Mother Theresa's coffin, covered with the Indian flag, was placed on the gun cart that had transported the bodies of "Mahatma" Gandhi and Nehru, the father of the Indian nation, and slowly drove towards the Kolkata Stadium where the funeral mass was held.
