On this day, 242 years ago, on September 3, 1783 (August 7, 1783 in the lunar calendar), the United States and the United States signed the Treaty of Paris, and the American War of Independence ended. The Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 and approved by the U.S. Congress in 1784, thus officially ending the War of Independence between Britain and the United States that broke out in 1776 due to resistance to British rule. Britain signed the accompanying Treaty of Versailles with France and Spain. Britain recognized U.S. independence and had to surrender the area east of the Mississippi River (part of which was not U.S. territory at the time) to the emerging country. Comments: The United States has finally got rid of British control.
