Li Ruqi is a China geneticist. Born in Tianjin City on March 2, 1895. Retired in 1986. His research work involves three aspects: embryology, cytology and genetics, and has published 40 papers in 60 years. He is also one of the first scholars in the world to study the genetic inheritance of fruit flies, and his paper "The Effects of Structural Aberrations of Drosophila Chromosome on Development" is an early document in this field. His "Genetic Genetics" published in 1985 is a large monograph in this field. He first discovered the China horse ascaris, which has three pairs of chromosomes, different from the European horse ascaris, which contains two pairs of chromosomes. His research also clarified various environmental adaptations during embryonic development. During his 60-year teaching career, he guided students with the tireless spirit of teaching and the method of "teaching without covering", and cultivated a large number of talents for the country. Famous China scholars Liu Chengzhao, Tan Jiazhen, Zhang Zuogan, Jin Yinchang, and Li Zhaodan have all studied and worked with him. He was elected as the first chairman and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Genetics. During his four years in office, he made great contributions to promoting the development of Genetics and the Genetics Society in China. In his later years, Li Ruqi thought about how to speed up the training of young animal genetics talents to meet the needs of the development of genetics in my country. To this end, he set up a "bonus" in the Genetics Society of China to reward young scientific workers who have innovative ideas on animal genetics research. Li Ruqi passed away in Beijing on April 4, 1991. His main works include "Genetic Genetics", etc. Li Ruqi's excellent qualities of rigorous academic research, indifferent to fame and wealth, integrity, and unpretentious reflect his lofty character as a teacher.
