On November 15, 1978 (the 15th of the tenth lunar month), the Tiananmen Square incident was vindicated.

On November 15, 1978, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China announced that the Tiananmen incident was a completely revolutionary action. All comrades who were persecuted for mourning for beloved Premier Zhou and opposing the "Gang of Four" on the Qingming Festival in 1976 must be rehabilitated and their reputations restored.

The Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China announced at an enlarged meeting of its Standing Committee: On the Qingming Festival in 1976, the masses went to Tiananmen Square to mourn deeply the beloved Premier Zhou and angrily denounce the "Gang of Four", which was completely revolutionary.

It was announced at the meeting: On the Qingming Festival in 1976, the masses went to Tiananmen Square to pay tribute to our beloved Premier Zhou entirely out of their infinite love, infinite nostalgia and deep condolences for Premier Zhou; and entirely out of their deep hatred for the "Gang of Four" The heinous crimes of harming the country and the people reflected the wishes of hundreds of millions of people across the country. The broad masses mourned the beloved Premier Zhou with deep sorrow and angrily denounced the "Gang of Four". This was a completely revolutionary action. Comrades who were persecuted for mourning Premier Zhou and opposing the Gang of Four must be rehabilitated and their reputations restored.

According to information provided by the Beijing City Public Security Department, among the more than 300 cadres and people arrested in 1976 for participating in the Tiananmen Square Incident, none were counter-revolutionaries. These innocent and arrested comrades have now been completely rehabilitated and their reputations have been restored.

Around the Qingming Festival in 1976, the vast number of revolutionary people in the capital came to the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square to grieve for their beloved Premier Zhou and angrily condemn the evil "Gang of Four", who were brutally suppressed by the "Gang of Four". The arrested cadres and the masses were very aware of this counter-revolutionary political conspiracy staged by the Gang of Four. After being arrested, they tenaciously persisted in the struggle, demonstrating their fearless bravery and revolutionary integrity of preferring to die to surrender.

Starting from May this year, the Beijing City Public Security Bureau organized a special team to conduct a comprehensive review of this case. After extensive investigations, it has been proved that this is a major wrongful case. Adequate facts show that none of the 388 people arrested and detained in this incident were counter-revolutionaries (only three people needed to be held criminally responsible for committing crimes such as theft at the time).

When the Beijing City Public Security Bureau and relevant departments rehabilitated these comrades who were arrested for mourning Premier Zhou and denouncing the "Gang of Four", they fully affirmed their revolutionary actions in their conclusions and completely restored their reputation.
