Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Tang Saier led the White Lotus Church Uprising
In 1420 (the 18th year of Yongle of the Ming Dynasty), Tang Saier, the wife of Lin San, a farmer in Putai County, Shandong Province, used the White Lotus Church to organize an uprising and called herself the "Mother of Buddha." There were tens of thousands of believers scattered in Yidu, Zhucheng, Anqiu, Juzhou, Jimo, Shouguang and other places. After Tang Saier's uprising, he occupied Shizha Village in the Yidu (Qingzhou) department and killed Gao Feng, the commander of the Qingzhou Guards, who had come to suppress it. Tang Saier's White Lotus Cult people in various counties also took action one after another, and the "small people followed him" and fought in Zhucheng, Jimo, Shouguang and other places in Shandong Province. He also used his familiar terrain and his specialty at night warfare to launch several attacks on the Ming army, burning the official warehouses, and advancing troops to besiege Anqiu. Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty sent Liu Sheng and Liu Zhong to lead the army to siege. The rebels broke out of danger at night and shot Liu Zhong to death. However, due to the disparity in wealth, the uprising army unfortunately failed, and Tang Saidi was covered by the masses and fled. The ruler was horrified. According to the legend among the members that Hou Saidi had been cut off to become nuns or become Taoist nuns, Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty issued an edict to "arrest all nuns in Shandong and Beijing." Soon after, he issued an order to "arrest all Buddhist women in the world." He was arrested one after another. Tens of thousands of victims have been killed, but no trace of them can be found.
