On this day, 40 years ago, on February 20, 1985 (January 1, 1985 in the lunar calendar), my country's Antarctic Great Wall Research Station was completed. The completion of the Great Wall Station ended the tent era in the early days of my country's Antarctic expedition. There is a meteorological observation site more than 20 meters long and more than 10 meters wide, equipped with various meteorological observers. Its meteorological observation records have been continuous since January 1985, accumulating valuable data for Antarctic meteorological scientific research. The transmitting antenna located in the northwest corner of the station area and the receiving antenna at the southeast end, as well as the diamond-shaped antenna towers with a height of 28 meters and 24 meters respectively, constitute the eyes and ears of the Great Wall Station. There is a power generation house in the north of the station area, which is the heart of the Great Wall Station and is responsible for the power supply of the entire station. Behind Building I, there is a warehouse for storing various foods and a refrigerator for storing fresh fish and fish. In addition, there is a green wooden plank house in the east of the station area-originally the Great Wall Restaurant, but now it is also a warehouse. This pocket city, which covers an area of about one square kilometer, also has a dock and an airstrip for helicopters to take off and land, all of which have made great contributions to the construction of the Great Wall Station. The Great Wall Station is located on George Island in the Antarctic. The reason why our scientific workers chose to build a station here is because there is abundant fresh water source. In the west, southwest and south of the station area, there are three small freshwater lakes scattered in the wide and shallow mountain streams and depressions. The West Lake closest to the station area is clear and calm, like a shining mirror. The deepest part of the lake can reach 10 meters. A clear stream overflows from the lake, winds between Building I and Building II, and flows into the bay. This is the Cuixi named by Comrade Yu Wuheng. The water supply of Great Wall Station mainly depends on it. In addition, there is a stream with very abundant water, which also provides abundant water source for Great Wall Station.
