On this day, 83 years ago, on June 9, 1942 (April 26, 1942, the Eighth Route Army of Central Hebei ambushed the Japanese visiting group. On June 9, 1942, the commander of the Sakamoto Brigade of the Japanese Army in Central Hebei led more than 300 infantry to escort a Japanese visiting group from Zhizhuangtou to Baizhuang. When passing through Songzhuang in the northeast of Shenze County, they were ambushed by the Eighth Route Army. Sakamoto was killed on the spot, and the cavalry and visiting group were also eliminated. The Japanese infantry army immediately retaliated against the Eighth Route Army. The Eighth Route Army had only three and a half companies of troops set up an ambush in Songzhuang. However, under the command of the deputy commander of the left leaf of the 22nd Regiment, they used the four previously built fortifications to repel the Japanese charge again and again. In the afternoon, Japanese and puppet troops from Anguo, Dingxian, Baoding, Shenze, Wuji and other places successively came to reinforce, with a number of about 2000 people. Under the cover of fire from 4 artillery pieces, 7 heavy machine guns, more than 80 light machine guns, and more than 40 grenade launchers, the Japanese and Puppet troops launched a fierce attack on Songzhuang. The Japanese Puppet Army also released poison gas on the Eighth Route Army, but because Songzhuang's terrain was relatively open and the wind was strong, the Eighth Route Army suffered no losses. The fierce fighting between the two sides reached late, and the Eighth Route Army repelled 38 Japanese charges, killing and wounding more than 900 Japanese troops and more than 200 puppet troops. At night, the Eighth Route Army successfully broke through its branches. In this battle, the Eighth Route Army killed 33 people and injured 41 people (including 4 company-level cadres), severely injuring the Japanese and Puppet Army with relatively small casualties.
