102 years ago today, on January 3, 1923 (November 17, 1922, the 1922 lunar calendar), Hasek, author of "Good Soldier Shuaike", passed away. Jaroslav Hasek's head is an excellent satirical writer in the former Czech Republic and Slovakia. His masterpiece "Good Soldier Shuai" is a world masterpiece well known to readers from all over the world. Hasek was born into a family of poor teachers in Prague during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His childhood was very miserable. His father died when he was 13, and he and his mother and siblings relied on alms and even begging to make a living. While in middle school, he often clashed with the police for participating in demonstrations and was detained and arrested many times. After graduating from high school, he traveled all over the country, which gave him a broader understanding of social life and provided rich materials for his future literary creation. After the outbreak of World War I, Hasek was drafted into the army and was incorporated into the Czech Corps by the Austro-Hungarian authorities to fight in Russia. When the socialist revolution broke out in October 1917, he joined the Soviet Red Army and soon joined the Bolshevik Party led by Lenin. In 1920, Hasek returned to Prague to specialize in literary creation until his death in the small Czech town of Lipnice on January 3, 1923, at the age of 40. Some of the earliest short stories published by Hasek reflected the tragic conditions of ordinary workers and voiced their voices against oppression. For example,"The Remembrance of the Maid Anna","The Legend of Xavier the Pig","Salvation","Lake Balaton", etc. were all famous works of critical realism in Czech literature at that time. These novels were full of safeguarding justice and love the thoughts and feelings of ordinary oppressed people. Hasek's greatest achievement in literary creation was the novel "Good Soldier Shuai" that he completed in the last two years of his life. This outstanding political satire uses the experience of an ordinary Czech soldier Shuik in World War I as a plot clue, profoundly exposes the ferocious and arbitrary ruler of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the corruption and degeneration of his army. The novel vividly describes the rape and robbery of the imperialist army on the people, the absurd relationship between officers and soldiers who bully the superior and suppress the inferior, their ferocious cruelty towards the captured prisoners, and the stupidity and greed of officers at all levels. The protagonist of the book, Shuai, is a wonderful satirical model. Through the "laughter" of this laughable character, the writer expresses his hatred for the enemy and his love for the people. Many progressive critics have compared Shuek to Cervantes 'Don Quixote. Hasek's "Good Soldier Shuaike" has been translated into nearly 30 languages, including Chinese, and is loved by people all over the world.
