The China-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance was signed in Moscow on February 14, 1950
On this day, 75 years ago, on February 14, 1950 (December 28, 1949, the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance was signed in Moscow. Stalin and Mao Zedong attended the signing ceremony. On February 14, 1950, after Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai held talks with Stalin and Vysinsky, the two governments signed the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance in Moscow, which came into effect on April 11 of the same year and will be valid for 30 years. The two sides also signed the "Agreement between China and the Soviet Union on China's Changchun Railway, Lushunkou and Dalian" and the "Agreement between China and the Soviet Union on Loans to the People's Republic of China." The Treaty stipulated that the Soviet Union agreed to waive its privileges in China and transfer all rights and property of the Changchun Railway of China to the China government without compensation before 1952. The Soviet army withdrew from Lushun Pass, and the China government reimbursed the Soviet Union for the construction costs there since 1945. The administration of Dalian was returned to Chinese jurisdiction, and the property temporarily managed and rented by the Soviet Union in Dalian was taken over by the China government in 1950. The Soviet government lent US$300 million to the China government (annual interest of 1%). On April 3, 1979, the Seventh Session of the Fifth National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China decided that in view of the major changes that have taken place in the international situation, the treaty will not be extended after its expiration.
