105 years ago today, on October 19, 1920 (September 8, 1920 in the lunar calendar), Soviet hero John Reid died young. On October 19, 1920, John Reid, a well-known Soviet poet and journalist, died of typhoid fever in Moscow. If he were still alive, the 21st would be the beginning of his 33rd birthday. After graduating from Harvard University in 1910, Reed went to work for an American magazine, where he developed an interest in social reform. In 1914, he wrote a series of articles about Villa and the Mexican Revolution, making him a nationally renowned journalist. In 1917, he married Louise Bryant, and together they went to Russia to cover the Bolshevik Revolution. After the October Revolution, Reid returned to the United States and published a report based on what he saw with his own eyes,"Ten Days That Shocking the World." He also helped establish the Communist Workers 'Party. In 1919, he was charged with sedition, so he returned to the Soviet Union and continued to speak in the Soviet Union until his death. He was buried in Red Square.
