August 25, 1967: The leader of the American Nazi Party was killed
On this day, 58 years ago, August 25, 1967 (July 20, 1967 in the lunar calendar), the leader of the Nazi Party in the United States was killed. On August 25, 1967, American Nazi Party leader George Lincoln Rockwell was attacked by a gunman in Arlington, Virginia, and died violently. John Padre, a former assistant to Rockwell, was charged in the murder. After causing a dispute between white and dark-skinned Nazis, Padre was forced to withdraw from the party in early 1967. He compared white-skinned partisans to "blue-eyed devils." Rockwell's successor, Matt Kyle, called the murder a failure for white people, saying: "No matter who did this, it can only benefit blacks and Jews in this country."
