On June 15, 1667, the 27-year-old French doctor Jean-Baptiste Denys performed the first detailed blood transfusion operation in human history, and it was a xenogeneic blood transfusion. He transferred 12 ounces (about 340 grams) of sheep blood to a 15-year-old boy who had bled too much. After this blood transfusion, the boy finally fortunately survived.
