On December 27, 1978, the first batch of fifty visiting scholars from China to study in the United States arrived in Washington by plane tonight. They were welcomed at the airport by John Reinhart, Director of the U.S. Agency for International Exchanges, and Han Xu, Deputy Director of the China Liaison Office in the United States.
