On this day, 61 years ago, June 15, 1964 (May 6, 1964, the Lunar Calendar), the Group of 77 was established. On June 15, 1964, at the First United Nations Conference on Trade and Development held in Geneva, 77 developing countries and regions issued the "Joint Declaration of the Seventy-seven Countries", forming the "Group of 77". By February 1988, 127 countries and regions had joined the organization, but the name remained unchanged. The purpose of the G77 is to strengthen cooperation among developing countries in the international economic field and adopt a unified stance against superpower and imperialist control, exploitation and plunder. The main activity method is to hold member ministerial meetings before each United Nations Conference on Trade and Development to study countermeasures, coordinate positions, and take joint actions to fight developed countries to reform unequal international economic relations. The first conference was held in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, in October 1967, and the Algiers Charter was adopted and decided to use joint action to resist exploitation and plunder by developed countries. The second conference was held in Lima, the capital of Peru, in October 1971. The Lima Declaration was adopted, condemning the super-power arms race, colonialism, racism, occupation of other countries 'territory and pressure on other countries, and calling for changes in developing countries' rights in international finance, trade, tariffs, aid, shipping and natural resource development. In April 1974, the Sixth Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted the "Declaration on the Establishment of a New International Economic Order" and "Program of Action" drafted by the group, which stipulated a series of important principles for establishing a new international economic order: all countries have the right to participate on an equal footing in solving world economic problems and have the right to exercise permanent sovereignty over their natural resources and all domestic economic activities; developing countries have the right to establish joint organizations of raw materials and primary product producers, etc. In February 1976, the third meeting was held in Manila and the Manila Declaration and Plan of Action were adopted. The fourth conference was held in Arusha, Tanzania in February 1979 and adopted the Arusha Declaration, emphasizing North-South dialogue and South-South cooperation. The fifth meeting was held in Buenos Aires in April 1983.
