On September 28, 1995 (the fourth day of the eighth lunar month), Palestine and Israel formally signed the Taba Agreement. On September 28, 1995, under the chairmanship of US President Clinton, PLO Executive Committee Chairman Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Rabin formally signed the Taba Agreement on Expanding the scope of Palestinian Self-Rule at the White House. The agreement was reached and initialled by Arafat and Israeli Foreign Minister Peres after nine days of negotiations in Taba, Egypt on the 24th. The Israeli cabinet and the PLO Executive Committee approved the agreement respectively on the 27th. After the agreement is formally signed, Palestinian self-rule will be extended to 30% of the West Bank. Israeli troops will withdraw from seven major cities in the West Bank and release thousands of Palestinians imprisoned. King Hussein of Jordan and Egyptian President Mubarak attended the signing ceremony as witnesses. Executive Chairman of the European Union, Spanish Prime Minister Gonzalez and Russian Foreign Minister Kozyrev also attended the signing ceremony.
