41 years ago today, April 23, 1984 (March 23, 1984 in the lunar calendar), the same HIV virus was discovered in the United States and France. On April 23, 1984, researchers in France and the United States were focusing on a virus called LAV; it was suspected that it was the root cause of AIDS. Although a lot of experiments are still needed to confirm this suspicion, scientists believe the existing findings will lay the foundation for clinical trials. Blood contaminated with HIV will soon be identified to prevent it from being used for blood transfusions. Of course, being able to identify this virus is not far from being able to develop a vaccine for it. So far, 4087 cases of AIDS have occurred in the United States, and 1758 AIDS patients have died.
