Fifty years ago today, on August 9, 1975 (July 3, 1975 in the lunar calendar), Soviet composer Shostakovich passed away. Shostakovich (September 25, 1906-August 9, 1975) was a Soviet composer. From 1960 to 1968, he served as the first secretary of the Council of The Russian Federation Composers Association. He served as a representative of the 6th to 9th Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. Received a doctorate in art science in 1965. He is an important representative figure in the Soviet music industry and one of the most outstanding composers in the contemporary world. A total of about 150 works were created, and representative works include: Symphony No. 1, Symphony No. 5, Symphony No. 7 (Leningrad), Symphony No. 10, Symphony No. 11th, Symphony No. 1905, Symphony No. 13, oratorio "Song of the Forest", Kantata "The Sun Shines on Our Motherland", cappella chorus "Ten Poems", vocal repertoire "Selected Jewish Folk Poetry", opera "Katerina Izmailova"(ie "Lady Macbeth of Mchensk County"), orchestral "Festival Overture", operetta "Plum Flower Village in Moscow", piano quintet and a large amount of film music.
