On this day 66 years ago, on April 21, 1959 (March 14, 1959 in the lunar calendar), the new Zhengzhou Yellow River Bridge was opened to traffic. On the morning of April 21, 1959, thousands of bridge construction workers and representatives from all walks of life in Henan Province and Zhengzhou City gathered at the bridge head and held a grand opening ceremony. Zhengzhou Yellow River Bridge is the largest permanent railway double-track bridge built on the Yellow River in our country under the leadership of the party, after the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. The bridge is nearly three kilometers long, all designed and built by our country itself. After the construction of the bridge started in May 1958, the builders gave full play to the style of daring to think and act, successfully applied and developed the construction method of the pipe column foundation of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, and through technological innovation and technological revolution, created a set of advanced bridge construction experience such as sinking giant pipe columns in the Yellow River. Therefore, it is guaranteed that the bridge will be completed half a year earlier than the national plan. During the process of bridge construction, the technical team of bridge construction was further strengthened, especially under the special geological and hydrological conditions of the Yellow River, and the practical experience of bridge construction was obtained, which laid a favorable foundation for the construction of new bridges on the Yellow River in the future. After the bridge is opened to traffic, it will not only greatly improve the transportation capacity of the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, but also play a great role in improving the transportation capacity of the Longhai trunk line. In the past, there was an old bridge over the Yellow River, but because it was a single-track bridge, the ability to pass far could not meet the needs of today's high-speed development of the national economy. In the past, there were often trains full of steel, coal, machinery and other materials, crowded on both sides of the bridge waiting to let go. With the opening of this bridge, this situation will quickly change.
