The Tiananmen Gate Tower is located in Tiananmen Gate on the central axis of Beijing City. It was built in the fifteenth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (14l7). Formerly known as Chengtianmen Gate, Tiananmen Gate is the main gate of the Imperial City. The city gate is five queues, with a heavy building of Jiuying, with a height of 33.87 meters; after being renovated in 1970, it is as high as 34.7 meters. It is a representative work of traditional architectural art in our country. The main building of Tiananmen Gate is divided into upper and lower floors. The upper floor is a towering city tower with heavy eaves and a yellow glazed tile roof, the lower floor is a vermilion city platform 13 meters high, surrounded by a low wall topped with glazed tiles, and the lower part is a beautifully carved white marble whisker pedestal 1.59 meters high. The total area of the city platform is 4,800 square meters, and there are a hundred-level ladder for going up and down the city on each side, commonly known as the horse road. There are also five arched doorways, the largest in the middle, 8.82 meters high and 5.25 meters wide. Tiananmen Gate is the main venue for the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China and an important part of the national emblem pattern.
