The people of Paris held an uprising against the feudal autocracy

On August 26, 1648, the people of Paris revolted against the feudal autocracy.

In the second half of the 17th century, the French feudal autocracy reached its peak, and the central monarchy was stronger than ever. Louis XIV (1643-1715) was only 5 years old when he was succeeded, and the prime minister was the prime minister Mazarain (1643-1661). Not long after the pro-king ascended the throne, there was a movement against the government in Paris. The Court of Paris (established in the 13th century by Louis IX, the position of judge is hereditary. The king's decrees must be registered with the court before they can be published, and the court has the right to object to the king's decrees.) A resolution was passed in May 1648, requiring: (1) that all new taxes or other financial decrees be announced, the registration must be reviewed by the court in advance; (2) that the overseers appointed by the king to the provinces in charge of finance, police and judicial power be abolished; (3) Abolition of the collection system of the population tax, exemption of all unpaid taxes, and punishment of tax collectors, financial officials and bankers who steal the state treasury; (4) No one shall be arrested without a declaration of charges, and those arrested must be brought to court within 24 hours. These demands reflect to a certain extent the desire of all social strata to oppose the feudal autocratic royal power, and are supported by the bourgeoisie and the general public. The people of Paris revolted on August 26 when Mazaran ordered the arrest of the two court chiefs. At this time, the king left and sent troops to surround Paris in December. The court nobles and bourgeoisie, who were leading the movement, were afraid of both the government's army and the expansion of the uprising under the siege of Paris, so they gave in to the king and gave up their demands. The uprising Parisian people fought against the royal army for more than three months and lost.
