Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On August 13, 1926, Cuban revolutionary leader Castro was born
Ninety-nine years ago today, on August 13, 1926 (July 6, 1926), the Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro was born. Among the political leaders of various countries in the world today, Fidel Castro is one of the few who have been consistently supported by their own people for decades and always attracted the attention of international public opinion. Fidel Castro, the supreme leader of Cuba, is one of them. His great wisdom and bravery in safeguarding national independence and defying violence have won the admiration of people all over the world, especially in Latin America. People praise him as "a bearded man who is not afraid, cannot be crushed, and cannot be defeated." Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926 in a wealthy family of manor owners in Mayari City, Balenaut Province, Cuba. His father, Angel Castro, was originally a Spanish soldier. After settling in Cuba, he started by planting sugar cane and became a famous local plantation owner. His mother worked on his father's estate when she was a girl, and later became his father's second wife. Fidel had four siblings and sisters, and Rau ́ l, who was five years younger than him, was his revolutionary comrade-in-arms who lived and died together for decades. Castro was ambitious and rebellious from an early age. As a teenager, he had deep sympathy for the working peasants. He opposed his father's abuse of farmers. He quarreled with his father many times for this. At the age of 13, he organized a strike of sugar workers against his father. As a teenager, Castro read a large number of biographies and books of heroic figures. José Marti, the pioneer of Cuban national independence, Bolivar and St. Martin, the liberators of Latin America, were the heroes he most admired and took as role models. Castro was admitted to the law department of the University of Havana at the age of 19. At that time, Latin America's national movement was booming. He actively participated in the patriotic student movement against the pro-American dictatorship and became a figure of the University of Havana. In 1947, he joined the Cuban People's Party. The following year, he attended the anti-imperialist and anti-colonial student congress in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, and participated in the uprising against oligarchy at the University of Bogota. After the failure of this operation, he fled back to Cuba to continue his education. In 1950, he received a doctorate in law. After Castro became a lawyer, he served as an advocate for the poor. In 1952, Batista launched a military coup, tightening dictatorship and blocking the road to democracy. On July 26, 1953, at the age of 26, Castro led 134 patriotic youths to attack the Moncada barracks in Santiago, with the aim of seizing weapons and launching an armed struggle against dictatorship across the country. Due to the disparity in strength between the two sides, the uprising failed, and most of the young insurgents were killed brutally. The Castro brothers and others survived death and were imprisoned. In May 1955, Batista "ran" for president "to win people's hearts, amnesty for political prisoners, and Castro and his comrades were unexpectedly released. Immediately after his release from prison, he started to organize the" July 26 Movement "revolutionary organization and went to Mexico to organize secret armed forces. On November 25, 1956, Castro led 81 comrades on an expedition to Cuba from Mexico on the yacht "Granma". When he landed in the province of Oriente, he was attacked by government forces. Most of the expedition soldiers were killed, and Castro and 12 survivors entered the mountains to carry out guerrilla warfare. He himself served as the commander of the insurgent army. By combining the armed struggle with the peasant struggle for land, the insurgent army grew rapidly, and at the same time set off a nationwide anti-dictatorship wave. Under the strong offensive of the insurgent army, the dictatorship quickly collapsed. On New Year's Day 1959, Batista fled abroad, and the insurgent army entered the capital Havana with the cheers of the people. Castro became the prime minister of the provisional revolutionary government and the commander-in-chief of the revolutionary armed forces. After the victory of the Cuban Revolution, the government led by Castro suppressed the counter-revolution at home. Major measures such as land reform and the confiscation of foreign capital and large enterprises; holding high the banner of opposing foreign interference and safeguarding national sovereignty were met with hostility and opposition from the United States. The United States carried out political subversion, economic blockade, diplomatic isolation, and even organized mercenary invasions against Cuba in an attempt to stifle the fledgling revolutionary regime. Castro led the Cuban people in a tit-for-tat struggle. In April 1961, Castro announced to the world that "Cuba has a socialist revolution." After that, the "July 26 Movement" he led merged with the People's Socialist Party and the "Three-One-Three Revolutionary Committee" to form the Cuban Communist Party. He was elected first secretary of the Party Central Committee. Over the past 35 years, Castro has led the Cuban people in an arduous struggle to safeguard national sovereignty, overcome the serious difficulties caused by the long-term economic blockade of the United States, and withstood the huge impact caused by the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the drastic changes in Eastern Europe. Today, Cuba actively adjusts its domestic and foreign policies and accelerates its economic development. Castro has been diligent and studious since he was a child. He is quick-witted and has a great memory. His speeches are highly motivating, his language is lively, and his reasoning is simple. He often speaks for hours at conferences or on television, which makes the audience fascinated. He was famous as an athlete as early as his student days. At the age of 18, he won the title of the best all-round athlete in Cuba. After becoming the leader of the country, he is still active on the sports field in his spare time from busy official business.
