January 4, 1951, Japanese and Korean troops occupied Seoul
On this day, 74 years ago, January 4, 1951 (November 27, 1950, the Chinese and Korean troops occupied Seoul. The First Division of the 50th Army of the Volunteer Army and comrades of the Korean People's Army gathered in front of the National Assembly Building in Seoul. On December 31, 1950, China and North Korea launched the third battle. This was an offensive campaign to break through the enemy's defensive positions on the 38th Parallel. What the Volunteer Army has determined is the policy of "steady progress", that is, to win quickly, and to stop when it is appropriate. Don't open the mouth too wide or fight too far. The western line will attack north of Seoul and approach Seoul without attacking; the eastern line will only cross the North Han River. However, the South Korean Army on the eastern line had no combat effectiveness and was quickly broken through by the volunteers. The flank of the US on the western line was exposed. Ridgway, commander of the Eighth Army of the United States, abandoned Seoul on January 3, 1951. On the 4th, China and North Korea occupied Seoul. By the end of the battle on the 8th, the US military and the South Korean Army had been forced to retreat near the 37th parallel north latitude.
