On October 6, 1994, the remains of two missing US military personnel were found in Xizang
Thirty-one years ago today, on October 6, 1994 (September 2, 1994), the remains of two missing US military personnel were found in Xizang. With the strong assistance of the Xizang Autonomous Region and the Xizang Military Region, a US team led by William Jordan, director of the US Army's "Central Screening Laboratory", found the remains of two missing US "humps" during World War II in the Wako Glacier in the Nyingchi area of Xizang. On September 17 last year, six Tibetans discovered the remains of a missing US "hump" aircraft and three missing persons during World War II. After the news was announced, the US side quickly transported the three bodies and some aircraft evidence back. After analyzing and studying the data, the US side believes that the plane was transported from India to Kunming on July 5, 1994. When it returned, it crashed in Xizang due to icy wings, temporary change of course, and fuel exhaustion. There were five crew members on board. In order to find the remains of the other two missing persons, the US side asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country for help in finding them. On September 11 this year, a US working group composed of six people, including Colonel William Jordan, director of the US "Central Screening Laboratory", Lieutenant Colonel Wan Guocheng, deputy military attaché of the US Embassy in China, and First Secretary Jonathan, with the assistance of a joint investigation team composed of relevant departments of Xizang Autonomous Region and Xizang Military Region, went to Ruogo Glacier, Yigong Township, Bomi County, Linzhi, to find the remains of two missing US "humps". The US working group is very satisfied with China's support and security work. Colonel William said on behalf of the working group: "On behalf of the working group, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the support given to us by both sides of your military and the ground! Your organization and security work is excellent, it can be said that it is impeccable, and there is no better than this." The location where the two missing Americans were found this time was the same as last year, except that ice and snow covered the remains of the two missing Americans. When the American team led by Colonel William left Lhasa, the remains of the two missing Americans were also taken away.
