October 14, 1933 Hitler withdrew from the League of Nations
92 years ago today, October 14, 1933 (August 25, 1933 in the lunar calendar), Hitler withdrew from the League of Nations. Hitler was determined to do it alone. On October 14, 1933, Adolf Hitler today denounced the Treaty of Versailles. He publicly complained that the international community treated Germans as "second-class citizens" and withdrew from the League of Nations and the Conference on Disarmament. Hitler's manifesto seemed aimed at getting all of Germany to support his National Socialist Party. He also announced the dissolution of the German Reichstag. Hitler also publicly stated for the first time that he wanted to rearm Germany, which attracted the attention of countries around the world. This policy was manifested when he criticized the disarmament movement. Hitler said he was in favor of total disarmament, but he also said it was unfair to single out Germany and force it to disarm. Hitler argued that Germany needed defensive weapons and already knew how to use them because "the people who lead Germany today have nothing in common with the traitors of 1918." In next month's referendum, German voters will get a chance to approve Hitler's actions. But they had no choice, because since all other parties had been declared illegal by Hitler, the only name of the Nazi Party would be on the ballot.
