102 years ago today, on June 26, 1923 (May 13, 1923, the lunar calendar), a fire broke out in the Forbidden City. After the fire in Jianfu Palace in the Forbidden City, relevant personnel cleaned up the fire. At about 9 o'clock on the evening of June 26, 1923, Jianfu Palace in the Forbidden City suddenly caught fire. Pu Yi urgently called Wang Huaiqing, commander-in-chief of the Gyeonggi Garrison, Xue Zhiheng, police director, and Nie Xianfan, commander of the infantry army, asking them to quickly send fire brigades to rescue people. Wang Huaiqing and others led many military police to the palace and brought in almost all firefighters and fire-fighting equipment from the city. However, because there was neither running water nor wells in the palace, firefighters had no place for heroes to use "and had to watch the fire spread everywhere. Some people suggested drawing water from the Imperial River outside the Forbidden City to put out the fire, so they quickly connected all the water dragons together. Although the water was attracted, there was only one water dragon, which was simply a drop in the bucket for the fierce fire and was of no use. The fire burned from Jingyixuan to Yanshou Pavilion. Yanshou Pavilion was magnificent and tall. When it collapsed, the burning rafters fell on other palaces. The surrounding palaces burned together and turned into a sea of fire. The towering pines and cypresses that had been in the courtyard for hundreds of years also turned into fire trees. The fire burned until about 2 a.m. on the 28th. The Italian Legation heard that the fire was in the palace and sent more than 30 soldiers to help fight the fire. These soldiers were quite skilled in fire-fighting skills. They commanded everyone to demolish houses, block fire roads, and gradually put out the fight by around 7 o'clock. But because the embers were still there, the fire brigade guarded it for another two or three days before withdrawing. This fire destroyed a total of 300 to 400 houses. In addition to all the antiquities collected in Yanshou Pavilion, which were destroyed, all the Tibetan Buddhist scriptures in Guangsheng Tower, and thousands of gold Buddhas and gold magic tools in Jiyun Tower and Ninghui Tower. Among them, the most precious are the four golden pavilions, all with diamond roofs and cloisonne seats; there are also thousands of Buddhist scriptures carved during the Jingshen Zhai period of the Ming Dynasty, a golden pagoda made during the Yongzheng period of the Zhongzheng Hall, a full collection of authentic scriptures and calligraphy and paintings by famous people from past dynasties, etc. Original appearance of Jianfu Palace courtyard inside the Forbidden City, Taihe Hall News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1m6k.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.14-07:26] 访问:68
