On January 20, 1955, the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China submitted the "Report on Carrying out Criticizing Hu Feng's Thought" to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, requiring that Hu Feng's literary and artistic thoughts be publicly criticized while criticizing Yu Pingbo and Hu Shi. The report of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee held that Hu Feng's report to the Central Committee "systematically and resolutely promoted his bourgeois idealism" and was "an anti-party and anti-people literary and artistic thought. His activities are sectarian clique activities." The report also requests to "pay attention to and investigate" the "possible hidden bad elements" in Hu Feng's small group.
