Wassily Kandinsky Kandinsky was born in 1866 in an intellectual family in Moscow. He received a perfect education in a good family environment. In middle school, he not only achieved excellent grades, but also was an excellent amateur cellist and painter. He studied law and economics at Moscow University and still maintains an interest in painting. At the age of thirty, he gave up his position as a law professor in order to learn painting. Arriving in Munich, he was immediately captured by the atmosphere of the Art Nouveau movement that pervaded the city. In 1900, he graduated from the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and became a professional painter. Vasily Kandinsky is one of the great figures in modern art and the founder of modern abstract art. He wrote "On the Spirit of Art" in 1911,"On the Question of Form" in 1912, and "Point, Line to Face" in 1923. Theses such as "On Concrete Art" in 1938 are classic works of abstract art and inspirations of modern abstract art. Along with Pierre Mondrian and Malevich, Kandinsky is considered a pioneer of abstract art. Without a doubt, Kandinsky is the most famous. He also co-founded a short-lived but influential art group, the Blue Knights. Kandinsky's paintings sold for nearly $15 million. The Solomon Guggenheim Museum is one of the largest collectors of Kandinsky's works.
